On the public prosecution of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a court has found a 62-year-old woman and her 68-year-old husband guilty under Part 2 of Article 28/Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason committed in a state of war. Both have been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The man was also punished for justifying and denying the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine (Part 1 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). While communicating with acquaintances, the man blamed the Ukrainian government and rejoiced at the shelling of Ukrainian positions.

The prosecutor proved in court that two unemployed residents of Shostka began carrying out tasks for a representative of the Russian special services in February 2024 — tracking the positions of defense forces while driving around the border in their own car. 

On a digital map, the woman marked the GPS coordinates of the location of military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces defending the northeastern borders of Ukraine. 

Using the coordinates provided by the couple, the occupiers targeted the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with drones and dropped guided aerial bombs on them. 

We remind you, the couple was detained in April 2024, and since then they have been in custody. 

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
