Under the procedural guidance of juvenile prosecutors of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a 19-year-old young man has been notified of suspicion, as the violation of vehicle operation by him led to a fatal traffic accident.

According to the investigation, the events took place on July 29, 2025, in one of the settlements of the Lebedyn community. At night, the suspect, along with a minor girl, was returning from the river in a car that belonged to the young man's father. 

Despite both being in a state of alcohol intoxication, and the girl not having a driver's license or driving skills, the suspect allowed her to take the wheel. While driving the "Dacia Logan," the girl lost control, veered into a ditch, and the car overturned. 

As a result of the injuries sustained, the 17-year-old girl died at the scene. The young man sustained minor injuries.

The actions of the suspect have been classified as allowing a person who is in a state of alcohol intoxication and does not have the right to drive a vehicle to operate it, which resulted in the death of the victim (Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Sumy region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
