For smuggling jewelry and Swiss watches for over UAH 12 million will be tried by two citizens

Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General, the pre-trial investigation regarding two residents of Kyiv for the fact of smuggling goods (part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been completed.
According to the investigation, the suspects transported luxury items across the state border of Ukraine while concealing them from customs control.
During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers conducted a sanctioned search in the passenger bus "Warsaw – Kyiv" at the customs post "Ustyluh," which was heading into Ukraine after completing customs clearance.
As a result of the search, hidden watches of various well-known brands, pendants, bracelets, and watch parts were found and seized from the personal belongings of the mentioned individuals.
According to the conclusions of forensic examinations, the total value of the seized items is estimated at over 12 million UAH.
Having familiarized themselves with the evidence collected in the criminal proceedings, the suspects unconditionally admitted their guilt and initiated a plea agreement with the prosecution, the condition of which, in addition to the main punishment, also included the application of special confiscation of the smuggled items worth over 12 million UAH for the benefit of the state.
Currently, the indictment under part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of goods) has been sent to court.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine.
Note: according to part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
