Within the framework of international legal cooperation with the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany, the extradition of a citizen of Ukraine – a resident of the Chernivtsi region, suspected of committing a traffic accident with fatal consequences (part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been ensured.
He was handed over to the Ukrainian side on August 5 of this year at the checkpoint "Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemetske" on the border with Slovakia.
According to the investigation, in the summer of 2021, while driving under the influence of alcohol, he caused a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old passenger.
The driver evaded the investigation and was placed on an international wanted list.
In January 2025, he was detained on the territory of Germany, after which the extradition process took place.
Currently, the extradited individual has been delivered to Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region, and at the request of the prosecutor's office, a non-alternative preventive measure has been chosen for him – detention.
The procedural leadership in the criminal proceedings is carried out by the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office, with the pre-trial investigation conducted by the Investigative Department of the National Police in the Chernivtsi region under the operational support of the Main Department of the National Police in the Chernivtsi region.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
