Prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office notified an operative of the institution “Correctional Colony No. 7” in the Volodymyr region of the Russian Federation of suspicion. He is charged with committing war crimes – ill-treatment of prisoners of war and other violations of the laws and customs of war committed by a group of persons following a prior conspiracy (part 2 of Art. 28, part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, torture, sexual violence, and humiliation of Ukrainian defenders aimed at destroying the national identity of prisoners of war were systematically used in the colony. Among the recorded facts:

• forced naked captives to touch each other and imitate homosexual acts;

• during walks, service dogs were set on completely naked Ukrainian prisoners;

• kept patients with scabies without clothes in common premises;

• electric shock torture was applied to various parts of the body, particularly the genitals;

• were forced to commit acts that were supposed to indicate their alleged homosexual orientation.

In addition, it was established that the suspect systematically used physical violence and kept prisoners of war in inhumane conditions, which led to serious physical and psychological consequences.

All these abuses took place in public — in front of the colony's leadership, security, special forces officers, and others.

This is the second identified suspect in war crimes criminal proceedings at “Correctional Facility No. 7”.

Pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine. To establish the circumstances of the crimes, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is also involved.
