Prosecutors of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sector of the Southern Region reported suspicion against the head of the dormitories of one of the military towns. She demanded a bribe for the allocation of official housing to a serviceman.

According to the investigation, the head, being aware of the requirements of Ukrainian legislation, which provides for the improvement of living conditions and unhindered receipt of living space, demanded from the serviceman 4,500 US dollars as an unlawful benefit.

The suspect promised to influence the decision of the officials of the Odessa Military Command to secure a specific apartment for the serviceman and assist with the paperwork for him and his family.

After receiving the money, she was detained by law enforcement officers right on the territory of the military town. The suspect was chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative of bail in the amount of 408,780 hryvnias, which was paid.

The woman is charged with receiving unlawful benefits for herself for influencing the decision of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefits (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

She faces imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Odesa region, with operational support from the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
