They issued themselves as volunteers and cheated on the military: in Odessa the prosecutor's office reported suspicion of 5 fraudsters

Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have reported suspicions against five participants of an organized criminal group for fraud (Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).  

According to the investigation, from January to August 2025, two organizers and three of their accomplices posed as volunteers, customs brokers, and drivers through social networks, including the "Cars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine" community on Facebook, offering advantageous sales of vehicles. In correspondence with buyers, mostly military personnel, the perpetrators promised low prices and favorable conditions, claiming that the cars were already near the border. They demanded photos of military IDs and partial payment for customs clearance, "Green Card" insurance, fuel, or delivery.  

No ordered vehicles were delivered. The victims transferred money to accounts controlled by the members of the fraudulent group.  

The total amount of damages inflicted on the victims is nearly 1 million UAH.  

Currently, 11 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been affected by the fraudulent actions.  

At present, at the request of the prosecutor's office, four suspects are in custody. As for the fifth, the issue of announcing him in search is being resolved.  

Operational support is provided by the Main Department of the National Police in the Odesa region.  

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Investigative Department of the National Police in the Odesa region.  

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
