Prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General have sent indictments to the court against four servicemen of the Russian Federation who fought in various units of the 234th Air Assault Regiment of the 76th Air Assault Division of the Airborne Troops of the Russian Armed Forces. They are charged with violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, as well as cruel treatment of civilians (Part 1, 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In March 2022, the occupiers shot at civilians they spotted on the streets of Bucha. They were searching for patriotic-minded Ukrainians and committed crimes against them.
Prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General have also identified and notified six more servicemen of the Russian Federation of suspicion. They are charged with violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, as well as cruel treatment of civilians (Part 1, 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in March 2022, a gunner of an airborne platoon, while patrolling a street in Bucha, shot two local residents who were cooking food over a fire. Another serviceman of the Russian Federation, along with his comrades, while on the territory of one of the schools in Bucha, from where the occupiers were firing, wounded two civilian men and shot a woman who was descending the stairs to the basement.
The investigation has also identified military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces who interrogated civilians, demanding information about the locations of the units of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine. During the interrogation, people were threatened with weapons and torture, gunfire was simulated, and bodily harm was inflicted.
The pre-trial investigation, under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Attorney General, is being conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
