In Odesa, the fact of extortion during mobilization measures was exposed

The Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa is conducting procedural oversight in a criminal proceeding regarding the unlawful deprivation of liberty and extortion under martial law (Part 2 of Article 146, Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

On the evening of January 15, prosecutors, together with SBU officers, uncovered the extortion by three employees of the district territorial recruitment and social support center, as well as a member of a public organization.

According to the investigation, during mobilization activities in the Kyiv district of Odesa, they unlawfully deprived a man of his liberty and placed him in a bus. Using physical coercion, they drove him around the city for about an hour.

During this time, they demanded $6,000 from the "hostage" for not delivering him to the Territorial Recruitment Center.

All those involved in the crime have been detained.

The issue of notifying the specified individuals of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.

Operational support in the criminal proceeding is provided by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
