Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court regarding two men who were gathering intelligence data on military units, engineering fortifications, the number of weapons, and fortification equipment of the Defense Forces in the region.
It has been established that one of them voluntarily contacted a representative of the Russian special services in 2022. Agreeing to cooperate, the accused involved an acquaintance in the criminal activity.
Having moved from Kyiv, the men rented accommodation in Odesa and set up observation points there. They collected intelligence data, made photo and video reports, and also marked coordinates on maps using online services.
The agents also produced incendiary mixtures, which they later used to set fire to critical infrastructure facilities in the region. During searches at their place of residence, law enforcement officers seized explosive substances.
The accused are charged with treason, sabotage, intentional damage to a critical infrastructure facility, illegal handling of weapons and explosive substances (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 113, Part 2 of Article 194-1, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the men are in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
