10.12.2025
In the evening of December 9 this year in Stryi, during the performance of official duties, a local resident injured a serviceman of the Stryi RTC and SP, who had been transferred to service in 2023 from the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel.
That evening, the servicemen, together with the police, were conducting activities to inform the population about mobilization. During the verification of registration documents, a 52-year-old local resident refused to provide them and began to flee on a bicycle.
When the serviceman caught up with the fugitive, he pulled out a pickaxe that he had with him, swung it, and struck the soldier in the side.
After the attack, he discarded the weapon and fled, while the injured man with a chop wound was taken to the hospital.
Thanks to the coordinated work of law enforcement, the attacker was located and detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor's Office, a criminal proceeding has been initiated regarding violence against a public official performing a civic duty (part 2 of Article 350 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the issue of notifying the man of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
