Will judge two foreigners who are accused of selling over $ 30,000 fake dollars
05.09.2025
The prosecutor's office of the autonomy has sent an indictment to the court regarding two foreigners who created a channel for the sale of counterfeit US dollars in Ukraine. Their actions have been qualified under parts 2, 3 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acquisition, storage, transportation, and sale of counterfeit foreign currency, committed repeatedly, by prior agreement by a group of individuals, in particularly large amounts).
It has been established that the accused acted as part of a group that set up the production of counterfeit banknotes in Turkey and supplied them to Ukraine. The sale of counterfeit currency occurred through postal offices and during personal meetings with clients for 50–60% of the nominal value.
Thus, in June-July 2021, one of the accused made a "sale" of fake banknotes totaling over 20 thousand US dollars. In August 2021, together with another accused, they sold another 10 thousand counterfeit US dollars, after which the perpetrators were detained in Kyiv.
In order to avoid responsibility, in the first days of the full-scale invasion, the suspects left Ukraine and were placed on the international wanted list. It was later established that the two suspects were hiding in Germany, where they were detained at Ukraine's request.
In June 2025, after considering the extradition request, the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany handed them over to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.
The accused will await the court's verdict in custody. They face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
