18.07.2025
Today, a meeting took place between the Attorney General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine, Alle Dorhout. The meeting was also attended by the relevant Deputy Attorney General Andriy Leshchenko, who is responsible for the investigation of war crimes.
“First of all, I want to express my condolences on the anniversary of the tragedy of flight MH17. The thoughts of all Ukrainians are with your people,” said the Attorney General of Ukraine.
Ruslan Kravchenko noted the symbolism of the fact that his first international meeting as Attorney General is with the Ambassador of a state that is a center of international justice.
He thanked for the colossal work and support from the Netherlands and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation to achieve common goals regarding the restoration of justice.
The parties discussed a number of issues, but the key ones were:
– the crimes of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as crimes against humanity and genocide;
– bringing war criminals to justice;
– the role of the Netherlands in supporting the establishment and functioning of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression;
– the issue of extraditing individuals who are evading justice;
– further reform of the prosecution authorities.
Attention was also paid to the work within the framework of the International Criminal Court.
Ruslan Kravchenko noted the active cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands within Eurojust regarding the investigation of international crimes committed by Russia and other common security challenges.
He thanked for the fruitful interaction and expressed hope for a swift resolution of requests from Ukraine that are currently under consideration in the Netherlands.
“Among those requests is one concerning the supply to Russia of dual-use components and technologies that are used for the production of weapons. This is a key issue not only for Ukraine but also for the global security of the European region,” noted Kravchenko.
For his part, Deputy Attorney General Andriy Leshchenko added that Ukraine already has positive experience in combating the supply of such components from a number of European countries. He pointed out that such channels are a source of opportunities for Russia to continue waging war and terrorizing the civilian population.
The Attorney General specifically emphasized the issue of extradition—particularly the importance of its more active application and the improvement of practical interaction between the competent authorities of both states. He stressed that Ukraine, even in the conditions of a full-scale war, not only manages to ensure full compliance with the rights, safety, and proper conditions for the detention of extradited persons but also significantly improves these standards, creating a reliable foundation for further strengthening mutual trust and accelerating the relevant procedures.
In turn, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Alle Dorhout assured of the unwavering support for Ukraine from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He emphasized the need for further consistent joint steps in the fight for the restoration of justice and strengthening international security.
The Ambassador also thanked the Office of the Attorney General for its openness and the opportunity to deepen strategic cooperation.
