The prosecutors obliged to provide protective status to 45 hectares of primeval forests in the Lviv region

The court has granted the claim of the Sambir District Prosecutor's Office against the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," obliging the state enterprise to establish protective boundaries for the primeval forest monument of local significance in Lviv region.

This concerns the natural monument "Bahnuvata" in the Sambir district of Lviv region. Its area is nearly 45 hectares.

On this territory, there is a beech primeval forest aged 100 to 166 years, with admixtures of maple, sycamore, and white fir. Starting from 2024, this area will be part of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine.

Despite this, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" has not yet developed a land management project with established boundaries for the natural monument, which makes it impossible to ensure additional protection and safeguard the primeval forest from logging.

The identified violations became the basis for the prosecutor's intervention.

The court agreed with the prosecutors' arguments and fully granted the claim. Consequently, the defendant is obliged to prepare technical documentation for the inclusion of the primeval forest area in the land cadastre.

After the decision comes into legal force, measures will be taken for its immediate execution.
