Prosecutors in the appeal confirmed the verdict of the deputy who robbed and imprisoned five foreigners
11.12.2025
The court supported the position of the prosecutors of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office and upheld the sentence of a deputy of the Velykyi Bereznyi community, who was found guilty of the illegal deprivation of liberty of five citizens of Tajikistan, including two minor boys, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy, and robbery (Part 2 of Article 146 and Part 2 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The materials regarding his accomplice were closed due to his death.
It was proven in court that in 2019, in Lviv, five foreigners used taxi services to get to Transcarpathia. The driver realized that the foreigners had cash. To seize it, he contacted the deputy and informed him of the car's location. On the way, he stopped the vehicle and began to threaten the victims with a weapon. Forcibly pulling them out of the car, the attackers took about 7 thousand USD in various currencies and mobile phones from them.
The victims were then taken to the town of Velykyi Bereznyi, where they were held in the basement of a private house for three days. Later, planning to send them to Kyiv, the captives were brought to the train station. One of the men managed to escape from the platform and call the law enforcement authorities.
Recall that in February 2025, by the verdict of the Mukachevo City District Court, the accused were found guilty of the charged crimes and sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. In addition, the court partially satisfied the civil claim of the victims for compensation of 332 thousand UAH for moral damage.
