Five residents of Uzhhorod have been served with suspicions of illegal drug trafficking. This concerns the organizer and four of his accomplices who established a supply and distribution channel for marijuana and methamphetamine in the region.
According to the investigation, the 38-year-old organizer provided "goods" to other group members. They packaged the drugs at home, sought new clients and couriers in various cities of the region. Sales were made through a "stash" system or directly from hand to hand, with payments conducted in cash or to bank cards.
During the searches, law enforcement seized nearly half a kilogram of marijuana and psychotropic substances, weapons, and cash in both national and foreign currencies.
All detainees have been previously convicted multiple times, including for drug-related crimes. Depending on their roles and circumstances, they are charged with illegal acquisition, transfer, storage for the purpose of sale, and sale of narcotic substances, committed repeatedly by a group of individuals in conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
At the prosecutor's request, the court has chosen preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of bail.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region under the procedural guidance of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office. Operational support is provided by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Security Service of Ukraine with the force support of the Special Operations Unit and the special police regiment.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and confirmed by a guilty verdict of the court.
