The prosecutor's office protected a unique natural complex with rare plant species in the Dnipropetrovsk region

The Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Office of the Prosecutor General has ensured the actual return of 28 hectares of forest fund land to the state, located within the territory of the national landscape reserve "Bazavlutskiy Coastal-River Complex" in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The Supreme Court upheld the decisions of the first and appellate instance courts, which fully satisfied the prosecutor's claim.

The court agreed that the Main Department of the State Geocadastre in the Dnipropetrovsk region unlawfully transferred a land plot of 28 hectares worth over 3 million UAH into the communal ownership of the Pokrovsk City Council, which is covered with forest vegetation and is in permanent use by the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine".

This plot is located within the territory of a natural reserve – the national landscape reserve "Bazavlutskiy Coastal-River Complex".

The reserve was created to preserve and restore the natural complexes of the Bazavluk River valley, its left tributary – the Solona River, as well as the Sholohov Reservoir. Rare and endangered plant species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List grow here, including Lesin's feather grass, hairy feather grass, black-flowered sun, dwarf irises, Chernyayev's flax, soft caragana, and two-bristle ephedra.

The territory of the reserve is part of the Emerald Network of Europe, protected in accordance with the Bern Convention.

However, despite the presence of forest plantations on the land plot, the State Geocadastre unjustifiably classified it as agricultural land, which could have led to illegal logging, land plowing, and the destruction of valuable plants within the natural reserve.

The courts agreed with the prosecutor's arguments and reclaimed the land plot for state ownership.

Thus, it was possible to prevent ecological losses: 28 hectares of forest with rare plant species have been preserved, and the territory of the natural reserve has been safeguarded from destruction.
