The prosecutor's office secured the extradition of the suspect in the fatal road accident to Ukraine

According to the results of the request from the Office of the Prosecutor General, prosecutors of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office ensured the extradition from the Republic of Poland of a resident of the Khmelnytskyi region, who is suspected of committing a traffic accident with fatal consequences.
According to the investigation, in March 2019, in the city of Starokostiantyniv, the suspect, driving a "Renault Kangoo," violated traffic safety rules and hit a cyclist. The victim sustained injuries, from which he later died in the hospital.
During the investigation, the suspect left the territory of Ukraine and was declared internationally wanted.
In August 2025, the man was detained on the territory of the Republic of Poland, and on December 18, he was handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement at the international checkpoint "Ustyluh – Zosin."
He is charged with violating traffic safety rules and operating a vehicle in a manner that caused the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the suspect has been placed in custody without the right to bail.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years or without such deprivation.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Khmelnytskyi region.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
