Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office are conducting procedural oversight in the investigation of the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident involving an employee of the Chernivtsi District Police Department, which occurred on July 28 in the city of Novoselytsia, Chernivtsi region.

Information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the police officer, while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan, lost control and collided with a fence. As a result of the accident, one passenger died. The driver and another woman who was in the car were hospitalized. Another passenger did not require medical intervention.

According to preliminary information, the driver was in a state of alcohol intoxication. The results of the examinations are awaited. The issue of notifying the suspect is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigations located in the city of Khmelnytskyi.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
