The Prosecutor's Office reported the suspicion of the FSB Informant, who was collecting intelligence in Cherkasy region
02.07.2025
Prosecutors, together with investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine, documented the illegal activities of a 20-year-old student in Cherkasy in favor of the aggressor state. He has been notified of suspicion of treason (part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect moved from Luhansk to Cherkasy before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine and enrolled in a higher educational institution.
In December 2024, a representative of the FSB of the Russian Federation contacted the student via Telegram with an offer to "leak" information about the consequences of missile strikes and the conduct of repair and restoration work for money. He was also supposed to provide photo and video footage from the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units.
The young man agreed and periodically sent the recruiter the results of his "intelligence operations." To conceal his activities, he received payments for completed tasks to a cryptocurrency wallet.
Law enforcement uncovered and halted the subversive activities against Ukraine.
At the request of the prosecutor's office, the suspect has been taken into custody without alternative. A motion for the arrest of property has been initiated. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Currently, a comprehensive set of investigative actions is being conducted to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the representative of the hostile intelligence service.
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
