Prosecutors are pushing for a life sentence for the infant's murder

An eight-month-old boy, who had not even taken his first steps, died from the blows of an adult man – his mother's partner. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for intentional murder. Expert assessments, testimonies, and investigation materials confirmed: the child's death was not an accident. The boy suffered pain, while the adult, who should have protected him, consciously inflicted new blows.

The head of the Kirovohrad regional prosecutor's office, who insisted on a life sentence, considers this verdict unjust. The prosecution is preparing an appeal.

The case regarding the intentional murder of a minor child has been concluded in the Blahovishchenske District Court. The man was found guilty of the fatal beating of the eight-month-old boy and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The state prosecutor – the head of the Kirovohrad regional prosecutor's office, Yan Strelyuk, demanded the maximum punishment provided by law during the court debates – life imprisonment. He emphasizes that the imposed sentence does not correspond to the severity of the crime, so the prosecution is already preparing an appeal.

According to the investigation materials, a resident of the village of Paliivka in the Malovyskivskyi district, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, repeatedly struck the eight-month-old boy – the son of his partner. The child died from a severe traumatic brain injury incompatible with life.

“The life of a child is an absolute value that the state must protect above all else. If we are unable to protect an infant from deadly cruelty, we lose part of our future. There can be no compromises in such cases – only just punishment,” said Yan Strelyuk.

“When a child's killer knows that he will never be released, it is not only punishment but also a warning. Society must be assured: the life of a child is sacred, and the state will not allow it to be devalued,” emphasized the head of the regional prosecutor's office.
