Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General, the activities of an organized group that established a channel for supplying cocaine from the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine have been uncovered and halted.
During a special operation, law enforcement seized about 3 kg of cocaine with a total value of over 18.5 million UAH. This is approximately three thousand doses that could have entered the "black" market.
According to the investigation, the illegal transfer of cocaine from the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine was organized by members of the criminal group. After being smuggled across the state border, the narcotic substance was sent to Kyiv using the services of one of the popular logistics companies. In this way, the smuggling was disguised as ordinary postal shipments.
Currently, two individuals have been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of selling narcotic substances, committed in especially large amounts). The court has chosen a preventive measure for both – detention for a period of 60 days without the right to bail.
They face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine with operational support from the Department for Combating Drug Crimes of the National Police.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and confirmed by a guilty verdict of the court.
