The Sumy Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Central region, together with the State Bureau of Investigations, has reported suspicion against a serviceman of one of the Territorial Centers for Recruitment and Social Support in Donetsk region under part 5 of article 27 and part 4 of article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — aiding and abetting desertion.

According to the investigation, for 6 thousand USD per person, the major assisted servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in evading service. He coordinated the process of unauthorized departure from the unit and transported servicemen, using his own official documents to bypass checks.

It has been established that the major instructed and transported two men in his own car towards Kyiv. After receiving 12 thousand USD at the border of Sumy and Poltava regions, he was detained under article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The unlawful benefit was seized.

The suspect has been chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years.

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
