31.07.2025
Prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General defended in the Supreme Court the punishment for a member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, convicted for encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, which led to severe consequences (Part 3 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The convicted individual was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property in favor of the state of Ukraine.
Prosecutors in all instances proved that the member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, with the aim of changing the borders and state border of Ukraine, in collusion with other individuals, on February 15, 2022, supported a resolution addressing the President of the Russian Federation, requesting to consider the issue of recognizing the self-proclaimed "DPR" and "LPR" as independent, sovereign, and independent states. Furthermore, on February 22, 2022, she supported the ratification of treaties on friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance between the Russian Federation and the "DPR" and "LPR." Such actions led to severe consequences in the form of loss of life on the territory of Ukraine, injuries of varying degrees of severity, destruction of citizens' property, and damage to the state's infrastructure.
The Cassation Criminal Court as part of the Supreme Court agreed with the prosecutor's arguments regarding the validity of the qualification of the convicted person's actions and that the mentioned punishment is a fair measure of coercion.
The criminal proceedings were conducted in a special court procedure in the absence of the accused (in absentia).
