The Prosecutor General's Office defended a lifelong punishment in the Supreme Court of Cherkasy region

On the principled position of the prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court upheld the court decisions regarding a resident of the Cherkasy region, convicted of the brutal murder of three elderly women for selfish motives, as well as two instances of open appropriation of property from elderly individuals (paragraphs 6, 12, 13 of part 2 of Article 115, part 4 of Article 187, part 3 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

In courts of all instances, prosecutors proved that from July to December 2015, the convicted individual, together with an accomplice, targeted lonely women over 80 years old. Posing as social service workers, they gained access to the victims' homes, used physical violence, and forced them to hand over their savings and valuables.

As a result of the brutal actions — in particular, wrapping the head and face with adhesive tape — three victims died from mechanical asphyxiation.

The Supreme Court agreed with the prosecutors' arguments that the imposed punishment of life imprisonment is fair and commensurate with the crime committed.

Currently, the man is serving his sentence. He has not admitted his guilt in the committed acts.

Proceedings against his accomplice have been terminated due to her death.
