Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a former official of the forestry branch has been notified of suspicion for improper performance of official duties (Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, at the beginning of 2024, the acting director of one of the branches of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," lacking special permits, allowed illegal logging in the landscape reserve of local significance "Mosty" in the territory of the Kamianske district.

As a result of the destruction of valuable tree species, the state incurred damages amounting to 6.9 million UAH.

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved.

For reference: the landscape reserve "Mosty" is an object of the natural reserve fund of Ukraine, protected as a national treasure and has a special regime of protection, reproduction, and use. The reserve, covering an area of over 2.3 thousand hectares, was created to preserve the forest ecosystem and is protected by the laws of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the third investigative department (located in the city of Dnipro) of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Poltava.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
