12.09.2025
The director of a woodworking enterprise located in the Rakhiv district of the Zakarpattia region attempted to carry out the illegal export of timber to Hungary.
According to the investigation, the enterprise signed a contract with a foreign company for the supply of over 3,400 units of spruce timber. A certificate confirming the legality of the wood's origin was issued for the export. However, after additional processing, an extra batch of about 500 units was created, for which no certificate was issued. The director of the enterprise, aware of the lack of permitting documents for this batch, deliberately decided to export it using the previously obtained certificate, thereby violating legal requirements.
Law enforcement officers uncovered him during a customs inspection at the "Tysa" customs post. The director is charged with an attempt to smuggle timber prohibited from being exported beyond the customs territory of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 1 of Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation and operational support are being carried out by employees of the State Bureau of Investigation in the Zakarpattia region under the procedural guidance of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
