As a result of a joint operation by law enforcement officers of Ukraine and the Czech Republic, under the procedural supervision of the Transcarpathia Regional Prosecutor's Office, in Uzhhorod exposed and shut down the activities of an organized criminal group that established a fraud scheme against Czech citizens.

According to the investigation, six people organized a “call center”, which employed 53 mercenaries. With the use of computer equipment, specialized software and telecommunications equipment, they fraudulently misappropriated the foreigners' funds.

Victims were convinced to invest in non-existent crypto projects. Representing themselves as experts in making investments or bank employees, the suspects built trust and fraudulently gained access to people's personal data and their personal offices in banking institutions. With the use of appropriate software, foreigners' funds were remotely withdrawn to controlled accounts.

The amount of damages is more than UAH 2.5 million — these are the funds of misled citizens of the Czech Republic.

Prosecutors notified the organizers of the suspicion under part 5 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for them in the form of detention is being determined.

The authorized searches seized more than 350 units of equipment used in the criminal scheme, which included 65 computers and servers, video cameras and recorders, more than 130 SIM cards, including international operators, USD 7,700 and vehicles of group members that have been seized.

The investigation is carried out within the framework of a joint investigative group between Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

Note: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
