Under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Southern region, two former officials of the Housing and Utility Department of Mykolaiv have been exposed and notified of suspicion.

This concerns the former head and the inspector-auditor of the fuel group, who have been notified of suspicion of embezzlement of someone else's property through abuse of office, committed on a particularly large scale (part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspects organized a scheme for embezzling funds during the procurement of fuel wood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They involved a controlled enterprise, concluded a contract with it, but in fact, the firewood was not supplied. Instead, 1500 cubic meters of wood were purchased from third parties at a lower price, and the difference — over 1.3 million UAH — was embezzled, causing losses to the state.

In order to recover the damages caused to the state, prosecutors are preparing a civil lawsuit.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the First Department of the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv. 

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
