The ex-head of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region was detained on suspicion of attempting to seize state power during the war
26.12.2025
Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, investigators from the Main Investigative Department of the State Bureau of Investigations detained the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region. He has been notified of suspicion of committing criminal offenses as provided for in part 2 of article 15, part 1 of article 109, and article 341 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, after the onset of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the suspect, while in a leadership position and convinced of the enemy's quick success, took actions aimed at the violent seizure of state power and the capture of a state authority building.
It has been established that, using his official position, he organized illegal actions to remove the head of the Kharkiv Regional State (Military) Administration from exercising his powers. At the same time, the suspect misinformed subordinates and initiated the spread of knowingly false information, which could have caused destabilization in the frontline region under martial law conditions.
These actions were committed during a special period, namely during the legal regime of martial law, and created a real threat to the continuous functioning of state authorities and the defense system of Ukraine.
On December 26, 2025, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv granted the prosecution's request and chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of 60 days, that is, until February 22, 2026, inclusive.
The pre-trial investigation and operational support are being carried out by employees of the State Bureau of Investigations.
If proven guilty, the former official faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Additionally, we inform you that prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General are already supporting public prosecution against this same former law enforcement officer in the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv in a case of treason, intentional non-compliance with an order, and unauthorized abandonment of the place of service under martial law conditions (part 2 of article 111, part 4 of article 402, part 5 of article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
