The organizer of a criminal group that operated in the Chernihiv region was sentenced to 7 years and 1 month of imprisonment for the secret theft and damage to someone else's property (part 4, 5 of Article 185, part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court also partially satisfied the civil claims of the victims for compensation of material and moral damages amounting to nearly 1 million UAH.

Prosecutors proved that in early August 2022, the man created and led a stable organized criminal group that illegally entered stores, houses, and apartments in the city of Nizhyn and stole money and property from local residents.

The organizer of the criminal scheme exercised overall leadership of the organized group. He selected targets for theft, monitored the victims, studied their lifestyle, distributed roles among the participants according to the developed plan, and provided them with tools for committing the crime. The accused also directly participated in the thefts, after which he sold the stolen property and distributed the proceeds among the group members.

In order to commit crimes and prevent detection, the criminals used an endoscope, radio frequency jammers, GPS trackers with magnets for attaching to vehicles, radios, lock picks, and cars of various brands.

Additionally, for an unobstructed theft and to allow one of the victims to leave his house, the man ordered his accomplices to set fire to his outbuilding, which was located in another part of the city.

During the course of their criminal activities, the organized group committed 10 criminal offenses against property. The total amount of damages exceeds 1 million UAH.

Until the sentence takes legal effect, the man will remain in custody.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Chernihiv region with operational support from the Main Department of the National Police in the Chernihiv region.
