Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office have submitted a case to the court regarding the former head of one of the customs posts of the Lviv Customs.

The investigation established that the official received 23,000 US dollars from a resident of Lviv region for ensuring the unhindered customs clearance of international shipments without the assessment and payment of customs duties.

Previously, the man had problems with the clearance of parcels containing goods (laptops, components for them, phones) from the USA and Europe. This involved customs employees creating artificial obstacles due to the regularity of incoming shipments, as well as taxing them at inflated prices.

The scheme for calculating the amount of the illegal benefit was based on the actual value of the goods and amounted to 5% for used items and 7% for new ones.

The official was detained after receiving another "kickback" – 20,000 US dollars.

He is charged with receiving illegal benefits by an official in a particularly large amount (part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Currently, the man has been dismissed from his position.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Lviv Region, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Region. The crime was uncovered with the assistance of the leadership of the Lviv Customs.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
