24.09.2025
Under the procedural guidance of juvenile prosecutors of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv, a minor mother has been notified of suspicion for leaving her child in danger and for grossly failing to fulfill her duties in caring for her 7-month-old son (Part 3 of Article 135, Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
It has been established that a 17-year-old mother, who rented accommodation in Kyiv, left the infant alone in the apartment for 5 days in January of this year while she went to Kharkiv. The child was removed from the locked apartment in extremely serious condition and hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the KNP "Kyiv City Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1."
The boy spent over 5 months in the hospital's intensive care unit. The child's severe condition was caused not only by the fact that the baby was without food and water for several days but also because the mother had previously neglected her son – the child was poorly fed, diapers were rarely changed, and the boy was constantly in bed, resulting in bedsores.
Currently, the child's condition has been stabilized by doctors; however, he is still in the medical facility and continues treatment. The issue of depriving the mother of parental rights will be addressed in the future.
According to the results of a commission examination, it has been established that the mother's actions and her improper fulfillment of her duties caused severe consequences for the boy's health.
The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Dnipro Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv.
